Meet Josephine Kufakwedu
The Founder
Josephine’s journey is rooted in a lifelong passion for serving marginalized and underserved communities.

Originally from Zimbabwe, Josephine migrated to Canada in 2007. From an early age, she was exposed to community service through her mother, who worked at a missionary school. These early experiences shaped her commitment to supporting individuals and families facing barriers and challenges.

Josephine began her professional career as a Special Education Teacher, where she supported women and families raising children with disabilities. After moving to Canada, she pursued a degree in Mental Health Studies at the University of Toronto, further strengthening her understanding of mental health, resilience, and community support.

Her passion for helping others eventually led her to connect with Calgary’s houseless communities. She began collecting and distributing food, clothing, and other essential items donated by compassionate members of the community. Through this work, Josephine recognized that many individuals experiencing homelessness were also struggling with substance use and addiction. This realization inspired her to complete a Diploma in Addiction Studies and deepen her ability to support people experiencing addiction and other life challenges.

For the past nine years, Josephine has dedicated her work to supporting women and seniors, building relationships based on compassion, dignity, trust, and respect.

In 2024, after thoughtful consideration and a shared vision for community empowerment, Josephine joined four other women who shared the same passion for service to establish Bridging Gaps – Connecting Generations.

What began with a vision to support vulnerable members of the community has grown into an organization focused on creating meaningful connections among Black immigrants, youth, seniors, and families. Bridging Gaps – Connecting Generations strives to help individuals navigate the different stages of life by connecting them with resources, opportunities, support, and one another.

Josephine believes that everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, valued, and connected. Through Bridging Gaps – Connecting Generations, she continues to turn that belief into action—building bridges across generations and creating stronger, more connected communities.
